Stirling Moll farms 3,700 acres of cropping and sheep country at Gerogery, NSW, 20km north of Albury, alongside his brother Daniel as part of a fourth-generation mixed farming operation.
After buying a used 6m Ultisow in 2021 to run alongside a tyne seeder, the disc machine quickly became their go-to — and within a season it was the only seeder they used. Three years into full disc, no-till, no-burn farming, the 6m machine was outgrown, leading them to order a fully customised 9m Serafin Ultisow S9 with a Simplicity bin.
In this video, Stirling covers:
*Why they moved to full disc, no-till farming
*Their experience with the 9m Ultisow S9
*Hydraulic downforce and its impact on seed placement
*Performance in wet conditions, heavy stubble, and varying soil types
*Needham firming wheels with spike closers
*Small seed tubes for companion cropping (cereals with turnip/radish) and pasture work
*Fitting scatter plates for slug bait application while sowing canola
*Simplicity bin fill, empty, and metering performance
*Transport advantages of a compact, sub-3.5m folding design across scattered farms and contract jobs
*Working with the Serafin team to build a fully customised machine
“Nothing seemed too hard and everything was achievable. We’ve got a machine that we’ve been really happy with.”
